More Than 500 Injured in Beijing Metro Train Collision
More than 500 passengers were injured in a train collision in the Beijing metro on Thursday, although no fatalities have been reported, according to the transportation administration of the Chinese capital.
In total, 515 individuals were sent to medical facilities for examination, with 102 of them found to have fractures, as stated in a message posted on the authority's website.
The incident occurred at 18:57 Beijing time (13:57 Moscow time) between the Xierqi and Shengming Kexueyuan stations on the northwestern branch of Changping. Preliminary investigations revealed that icy conditions on the tracks caused by snowfall led to emergency braking and the stopping of a train from the opposite direction. The following train was unable to stop in time, resulting in the collision.
As of Friday, 67 injured individuals remain in hospitals, while the others have been discharged.
