VIDEO: This is not a solution to the issue. Drivers of vehicles with Georgian license plates protest

Drivers of vehicles with Georgian license plates are protesting near the Government of Armenia, demanding a review of the recently adopted decision. Earlier, it was reported that the Armenian National Revenue Committee has released a draft proposing that separate fees be paid for the operation of cars registered in Georgia, effectively a deposit. Until now, Armenian citizens had been operating cars purchased in Georgia without customs clearance.

The state is obligated to subsidize the customs duties for vehicles temporarily imported into Armenia before December 30, 2023, including a subsidy amounting to 40% for cars manufactured within the last five years, and 70% for older vehicles, until December 4.

“The subsidy proposed by the government is not a solution to the issue. We still have to pay 30% (the subsidy for older vehicles is 70%). In fact, we are being forced into customs clearance, which none of us can afford,” said one of the protesting drivers.

According to them, this involves a significant sum of money, and they have been given only 25 days until December 30. “They are demanding a customs clearance fee that exceeds the price of our car. This decision needs to be reviewed. Just the environmental tax amounts to about $2,000. And that 30% is an enormous amount,” stated another protest participant.

The protesters are demanding a meeting with representatives of the government.
