Shameful Night for Turkish Football

Turkey's Football Federation has postponed all scheduled matches in the country due to an incident involving the assault of a referee. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.

“The Turkish Football Federation held an emergency meeting. We have postponed matches in all leagues indefinitely. This attack marks a shameful night for Turkish football. We believe Turkish football does not deserve this,” stated the President of the Football Federation, Mehmet Buyukeksi.

It has also been reported that the president of the football club involved in the incident has been arrested. In addition to him, two other individuals have also been detained.

Earlier, it was reported that Faruk Kocak, the president of the Ankara Gucu club, struck referee Halil Umut Melor during the latter stages of a match against Rizespor in the 15th round of the Turkish league (which ended in a 1:1 draw). In the second half, the referee had sent off one of the players from Kocak's team. After the final whistle, the president rushed onto the field accompanied by several individuals and attacked the referee.
