If They Did Not Escape from the Army and Draft, We Would Not Change Anything in the Law: Andranik Kocharyan

Those who flee the army should not be prosecuted, but should be given alternative options. This was stated today by Andranik Kocharyan, Chairman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security, during the discussion of amendments and changes to the law on "Military Service and the Status of Military Servants."

"A comprehensive solution will not satisfy everyone. If they had not fled the army and the draft, we would not change anything in the law. Why did they go away? The issue is deep-rooted. But let’s not dig into the depths; rather, let's find a solution that allows us not to judge people but to offer alternative opportunities. Four alternative directions have been given, and we should be united regarding this. As for what kind of regulations we will find in the future, no one is constraining us in that regard," Kocharyan stated.

It should be noted that the National Assembly is reviewing the regulation concerning individuals who are 27 years old and have not completed mandatory military service for the first time.
