Why the Topic of Early Elections Has Resurfaced: 'Fact'

The newspaper 'Fact' reports that the media has repeatedly highlighted Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's serious concern over his political future. As a 'backup' option, he intends to extend his government’s tenure by opting for early parliamentary elections.

Moreover, there are indications that the issue of early parliamentary elections is gaining traction and may be realized around May-June 2024.

Interestingly, various governmental Telegram channels and Facebook groups have been conducting intensive social surveys related to this topic to gauge public sentiment.

However, there is a viewpoint suggesting that these 'surveys,' which predominantly involve 'Nikol supporters,' aim to convince both themselves and their base that the ruling Civil Contract Party (CPP) still enjoys a significant rating and can achieve favorable results.

According to our sources, the West has a particular interest in this matter, striving to prolong Pashinyan's authority. Given that Pashinyan’s popularity is declining geometrically, alternative strategies are being developed to avoid potential 'zugzwang' situations. This includes cultivating a preferred candidate, under which Pashinyan could assume a 'shadow' leadership role.

It’s particularly intriguing that the emergence of the early election topic became more pronounced after it was revealed that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev also seeks to hold early presidential elections. 'This indicates that there are some moderators attempting to keep the domestic political processes of both countries under control,' political technologist Vigen Hakobyan expressed in an interview with 'Fact.'
