Vote of No Confidence in Poland's Prime Minister; Opposition to Form New Government
The Polish Sejm has voted no confidence in Mateusz Morawiecki's government. The opposition will form a new government in Poland, with the pro-European politician, former Prime Minister, and former President of the European Council Donald Tusk expected to take office.
This change comes after a united opposition victory in parliamentary elections, where three opposition parties formed a coalition that significantly weakened the ruling PiS party, which has been in power for many years. A total of 190 members voted 'in favor' of Morawiecki's government, while 266 voted 'against.'
The Sejm will now select a new government, with Donald Tusk set to take his oath in the coming days. The parliament must grant Tusk the authority to form a new cabinet and vote in favor of his confidence vote.
