Donald Tusk Elected as Prime Minister of Poland
On December 11, members of the Polish Sejm elected Donald Tusk, leader of the opposition "Civic Platform" party, as the country's Prime Minister with a majority vote. According to PAP, 248 lawmakers voted in favor of Tusk, while 201 voted against.
Next, Tusk will propose the composition of his government, after which his candidacy must be approved by Polish President Andrzej Duda. Only after this, the newly elected Prime Minister will take the oath of office. In the meantime, Mateusz Morawiecki will continue to perform the duties of Prime Minister.
“Thank you, Poland, this is truly a wonderful day. Not just for me, but for all those who have deeply believed for years that everything will be better, and we will be freed from darkness and evil,” Tusk said after the vote.
It is worth noting that earlier, the Polish Sejm had expressed a lack of confidence in Mateusz Morawiecki's government, after which it became known that Tusk would be the sole candidate for Prime Minister.
