Police Forces Accumulate Near Alaverdi Since Yesterday
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that Alaverdi community leader Arkadi Tamazyan has appealed to the Administrative Court to contest the impeachment proceedings that took place recently. The lawsuit argues that the process was illegal and that the ruling Civil Contract party did not have the right to initiate such actions according to the Local Self-Government Law. Furthermore, he plans to file a complaint with the Prosecutor's Office and the police against the 'hooligan' actions of the Civil Contract members.
It is recalled that two days ago, with the active support of dozens of police officers, the Civil Contract party presented a vote of no confidence against the community mayor Arkadi Tamazyan, who was elected by the "Living Country" party quota. However, after seizing power, the members of the Civil Contract council have not appeared in the mayor's office. Today, according to the law, the inauguration of the 'elected' mayor David Qumashyan from the Civil Contract is supposed to take place.
Since yesterday, police forces have been deployed near Alaverdi to unlawfully protect the elected official from his voters. Our sources have informed us that Tamazyan has asked his supporters not to hold protest actions as he does not want to put people in harm's way.
