We Will Continue the Struggle by All Political Means to Restore Justice: Tamazyan

Former mayor of Alaverdi Arkadi Tamazyan has made a post on his Facebook page:

“Dear residents of the Alaverdi community,

Recently, right before our eyes, there was yet another blatant attempt to undermine the local self-government institution in our community. A group of opportunists, with the patronage of around 1000 police officers, seized control of the community’s governance, grossly disregarding the laws and with visible violations. It is evident that their goal is not to serve the community but to satisfy their petty ambitions and interests at any cost.

Throughout this past year, my team and I have demonstrated that the community is governed with the active participation of residents, and despite the frequent artificial obstacles created by the central authorities of the country, the work we have accomplished is visible and significant.

Dear ones, the letters, calls, and online posts you have sent during these days are truly inspiring, and I am grateful for that. I am confident that in the atmosphere of stable mutual trust that has been formed, we will return together to the common work of developing Alaverdi.

I would also like to add that our team has appealed to the court regarding the illegal and violent seizure of the position of community leader. We will continue the struggle by all political means to restore justice. The role of each of you in this struggle is invaluable.

I will continue to stay in daily contact with you to discuss our future plans and actions.

Tomorrow, those who have seized the community authority plan to conduct a swearing-in ceremony for the community leader, which I also consider to be yet another illegal step. Thank you,” wrote Tamazyan.
