Martuni Military Police Chief Received Bribe of 570,000 Dram
The investigations conducted by the Operational-Investigative Department of the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia have established that the head of the Martuni territorial division of the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, E. A., received a substantial bribe of 570,000 AMD for performing illegal actions on behalf of the person indicated by the briber.
Specifically, it has been revealed that the father of a conscript soldier from military unit N of the Ministry of Defense, S. H., sought assistance from G. G., the military officer of the Dilijan No. 2 secondary school, to evade consequences for a case involving the discovery of prohibited items. G. G., intending to facilitate the bribe, approached his close associate, E. A., the head of the Martuni Military Police, who accepted the bribe offer.
Subsequently, E. A. used his official powers and the influence that came with them, in collusion with G. G., to not register the incident involving the soldier's discovery of prohibited items and to take no further action. On September 12, 2023, he received the bribe of 570,000 AMD via bank transfer from the soldier's father.
E. A. has been charged under Articles 435, Part 2, Clauses 2 and 3, and Article 549, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, while G. G. faces charges under Article 436, Part 2, Clauses 2 and 3, and S. H. is charged under Article 436, Part 2, Clauses 2 and 3 as well. The preliminary investigation of the criminal proceedings has been completed. The prosecutor has confirmed the indictment, and the materials of the case have been sent to court for substantive examination.
