Aliyev Says the U.S. Can Contribute to Negotiations Between Baku and Yerevan
Washington can play a role in the process of normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan, considering the new realities. This was stated by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev during talks with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia James O'Brien.
“President Aliyev emphasized that historical opportunities for establishing peace have emerged following the end of the conflict and the full restoration of Azerbaijan's sovereignty, and the U.S., taking into account the new realities, can also contribute to this process,” said a statement from Aliyev's press service, published on the president's website.
Aliyev also highlighted his country's role in ensuring Europe's energy security and pointed out the expansion of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries. He noted that today there are “new transport and logistics opportunities emerging in the region through the Middle Corridor.”
For his part, O'Brien emphasized that the United States “supports the peace agenda in the region” and the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He stated that the U.S. is ready to host the next round of Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations in Washington.
