Civil Contract MPs Receive SMS: What to Expect from the "Hayakve" Bill
The "Hayakve" bill, proposed by 58,000 citizens, seeks to establish criminal liability for officials who accept or recognize Nagorno-Karabakh as part of another state or deny the Armenian Genocide. The bill was voted down yesterday by the Parliamentary State-Legal Committee.
During today’s full session of the National Assembly, MPs will vote on whether to place the negatively reviewed bill on the agenda for discussion.
Sources from the ruling Civil Contract party report that MPs have already received SMS messages urging them to attend today’s session in solidarity and to vote against the "Hayakve" bill, with the intention of preventing it from entering the agenda of full sessions.
Regarding the future of the proposal and the plans of the initiators of "Hayakve," they stated that no decisions have been made yet. The legal pathway in Parliament seems to have been exhausted, and perhaps an alternative route leading to a referendum will be considered.
