Tigris and Euphrates Rivers at Risk of Drying Up

Iraq is facing a serious water crisis due to climate change, with the marshes in the south included in UNESCO's World Heritage list having dried up, and the Tigris and Euphrates rivers also threatened by desiccation.

As reported by RIA Novosti, this was announced by Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid during the opening of the global climate summit held at the UN climate conference in Dubai.

“Iraq is a country with low greenhouse gas emissions, but it is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world to climate change, particularly in terms of water and agriculture. The country is facing a very serious water crisis, as exemplified by the drought in the marshes of southern Iraq, which are included in UNESCO's World Heritage list. The Tigris and Euphrates rivers are currently at risk of consumption and drying up due to various factors, including climate change,” Rashid stated.
