Drivers Often Pretend to Be Buckled Up: Ministry of Internal Affairs Warns

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reports: “Statistics show that failing to wear a seatbelt after exceeding the speed limit is the second leading cause of fatalities in car accidents. Wearing a seatbelt reduces the likelihood of death or serious injury in the event of an accident by keeping drivers and passengers in the correct position even during rollovers and crashes. During travel, both the driver and passengers move at the same speed as the vehicle. If the car comes to a sudden stop or crashes, the driver and passengers continue moving at the same speed the vehicle was traveling just before stopping.

There are often cases where drivers pretend to be buckled up, while in reality, they sometimes throw the seatbelt over the backrest of the seat. Failing to buckle up is a common traffic violation. Unfortunately, in addition to drivers, passengers also ignore the potential risks of not wearing seatbelts. In 2022, road police and patrol services across the country issued 50,131 administrative violations for driving without a seatbelt and transporting unbuckled passengers. In the first eleven months of 2023, 66,790 administrative violations were reported, which is 16,000 more than the previous year.

Dear drivers and passengers, please adhere to traffic rules. The mandatory use of seatbelts will preserve your life,” states the Ministry of Internal Affairs in a thematic address.
