The Power of Artificial Intelligence is Alarming: UN Sounds the Alarm

The potential of digital technologies and generative artificial intelligence to change society and influence global politics is alarming, especially considering that approximately 70 elections will be held in countries with a total population of around 4 billion in 2024.

This was announced by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk during a summit on artificial intelligence and human rights. “I am increasingly concerned about the power of digital technologies in terms of their ability to change society and influence global politics. With nearly 70 elections scheduled in 2024 for about four billion people, digital fraud and misinformation campaigns can play a significant role,” he stated.

Turk believes that generative artificial intelligence could revolutionize human life and solve some of the world's most complex problems; however, it also increases risks that threaten human rights and dignity. According to the High Commissioner, the emergence of this technology is a turning point in the history of humanity.
