Russian Authorities Plan to Reduce the Number of Labor Migrants in Moscow

The number of labor migrants in Moscow is significantly high, and it is planned to reduce this figure. This statement was made by Vitaly Suchkov, head of the Department of National Policy and Interregional Relations of Moscow, during the XI International Scientific-Practical Conference titled "Unity in Differences: The Vector of Moscow's Strategy Development until 2030." His remarks were quoted by RIA Novosti.

“It is no secret that the number of migrants in the capital is large. Objectively, a situation is being created where, for the continuous and dynamic development of the megacity, primarily in the interests of its residents, additional labor resources are necessary today,” said the official.

He added that the vast majority of foreign citizens work in sectors where there is a lack of desire for employment from local residents. This primarily concerns sectors such as construction, road works, cleaning, and more.

Suchkov noted that Moscow is also an attractive city for residents of other regions of Russia. He emphasized that in the medium term, the priority of the city authorities is to gradually reduce the share of workers from other countries, which is already enshrined in the strategic provisions of the Moscow City Hall.
