Lavrov Says Western Countries Are Preparing a Fate for Moldova
The next country that may suffer due to the hybrid war unleashed by Western politicians against the Russian Federation could be Moldova. This was stated by the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, during a meeting of foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), as reported by РИА Новости.
According to him, NATO and the European Union (EU) are seeking to destroy the negotiation platform under the 5+2 format, which is aimed at resolving the Transnistrian issue.
As the Russian Foreign Minister noted, one of the failed attempts to resolve the situation in the region was the Kozak memorandum. Lavrov emphasized that the relevant plan could have yielded results 20 years ago.
“NATO and the EU subsequently torpedoed the already signed document by Chișinău and Tiraspol without protocol, and now they are eliminating the ‘5+2’ format—the last thing that remains in the joint efforts for the settlement of Transnistria,” highlighted Moscow's representative.
In this context, he did not rule out that Western states intend to sacrifice Moldova as part of the hybrid war against Russia.
The participants in the ‘5+2’ format are Chișinău, Tiraspol, Russia, Ukraine, and the OSCE. The latter three are involved in the negotiation process as mediators, while the USA and the EU participate as observers. The last meeting under this format took place in October 2019 in the capital of Slovakia.
