Finland Terminates Border Cooperation Agreement with Russia
Today, the Finnish government has terminated the border cooperation agreement with Russia during a meeting. This information was reported by RIA Novosti, citing the decision published by the government.
Earlier, on October 20, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order to suspend the border cooperation support agreement with Finland, which will come into force on January 24, 2024.
The Finnish government has decided to close additional border crossing points with Russia. The Finnish government reports that on October 25, it received a note from the Russian Foreign Ministry in this regard and stands by its decision to suspend the agreement’s effectiveness.
“The State Council is making a decision to annul the agreement on the development of border cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Finland and the Government of the Russian Federation,” the statement reads. The corresponding decision will enter into force on January 24, 2024.
