Samvel Babayan to Attend Inquiry Commission Today; Meeting is Closed-Door
The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that former commander of the Artsakh Defense Army, Samvel Babayan, will attend the National Assembly's inquiry commission regarding the 44-day war today. The meeting will be closed to the public, with only members of the ruling My Step Alliance being present. This means that the commission members will ask Babayan questions of their choice and receive answers, while the public will remain in the dark.
It is no secret that Samvel Babayan is perhaps the most favored Artsakh figure among the ruling party members and is a close ally of commission chairman Andranik Kocharian. Therefore, the ruling party members intend to give him a warm reception. In other words, we can say that his invitation to the inquiry commission is merely a formal act.
It is noteworthy that since the commission's establishment, Samvel Babayan, as the leader of an extra-parliamentary force, participated in its activities. He later announced his refusal to participate in the commission's work, claiming that “the rules of the game are not being followed.” Now, the situation has changed: there is no longer a question of “game rules” for Samvel Babayan, and he is coming to the inquiry commission as an invited guest.
Moreover, it should be added that on December 3, the inquiry commission led by Andranik Kocharian will complete its work regarding the 44-day war, making Samvel Babayan the last invited guest.
