Over 4500 Illegal Constructions Built in Armenia in 3 Years, Deputy Minister of Justice Says

In Armenia, more than 4500 illegal constructions have been built between 2020 and 2023. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Justice Armenuhi Harutyunyan during a meeting of the Economic Affairs Standing Committee of the National Assembly.

She emphasized that over the last three years, 4673 decisions have been made to hold accountable those involved in illegal construction activities in the country. "Of these incidents, 3427 were recorded in Yerevan, while 1246 were reported in the provinces. There are regions where no incidents have been recorded at all, but it is possible that the relevant authorities have not been diligent there. We can confidently say that the legislative changes we have implemented have not yet yielded results," Harutyunyan remarked.

The Deputy Minister noted that in many cases, citizens found it more convenient to pay fines than to obtain permissions, as the fines were lower than the fees for construction permits. In this regard, the Ministry of Justice has initiated new changes.
