The Current Status of the Criminal Case Against Jalal Harutyunyan is Known
The criminal case against the former commander of the Armed Forces, Jalal Harutyunyan, has been sent to court. The case was assigned on October 27 to Judge Garik Abelyan of the Syunik Regional Court of General Jurisdiction. This information was obtained from the Judicial Information System.
Jalal Harutyunyan has been charged under Article 550, Part 3 of the RA Criminal Code (military negligence). According to the indictment, while serving as the commander of the defense army with the rank of lieutenant general and being an official public servant, Harutyunyan was in a position of command, with authority to issue orders and directives and ensure their execution within the framework of the relevant legal relations. During the declared state of martial law on October 12, 2020, he exhibited a careless attitude towards service and, due to his negligent behavior, performed his duties improperly, which inadvertently led to serious consequences.
It is recalled that former commander Jalal Harutyunyan was accused in connection to two episodes of wartime events; the first episode concerns the known counteroffensive operation that took place on October 7, 2020, and the second relates to the losses resulting from an attack by the enemy on October 12, 2020, in one of the divisions.
Earlier, it was reported that the public criminal prosecution against the former commander regarding the counteroffensive on October 7, 2020, was discontinued for exonerating reasons.
