US Denies Pressuring Ukraine Amid Negotiation Claims
The American administration asserts that a recent article published in the German newspaper Bild, which claims that the US and Germany are pressuring Ukraine to initiate peace talks, is unfounded.
“The Bild article was intriguing. However, no. There is no American policy… We have always said that this should be decided by Ukraine. We do not make any decisions regarding Ukraine without Ukraine,” said James O’Brien, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs. He made these remarks during a special conference call for reporters dedicated to Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to Europe this week.
“And I think the other reality here is that we see no signs that Russia is prepared to engage in meaningful, substantive peace negotiations,” O’Brien added.
