Traffic Police Officer Issued Driver's Licenses in Exchange for Bribes; 15 Individuals Arrested

The official of the registration and accounting department of the Traffic Police of the Republic of Armenia, with the assistance of another official, has received bribes from numerous individuals applying for driver's licenses and issued them licenses.

According to the information provided by the Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia, during the criminal proceedings, 15 individuals have been arrested.

It was revealed during the investigation that from August 17, 2023, to November 2, 2023, with the help of G. H., Traffic Police officer V. H. formally accepted theoretical and practical exams from about three dozen citizens applying for a driver's license, receiving bribes ranging from 380,000 to 500,000 AMD from each.

As a result of these actions, many applicants without the theoretical and practical knowledge required for a driver's license unlawfully obtained such licenses.

“15 individuals, including the Traffic Police official V. H. who received the bribe and the person who assisted him, have been arrested. The investigator of the Anti-Corruption Committee has submitted a motion to the court to select detention as a measure of restraint for V. H., which has been granted,” the statement noted.

V. H. has been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Point 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (receiving a large bribe), and G. H. who assisted him has been charged under Article 46-435, Part 2, Point 3 of the Criminal Code (aiding in receiving a large bribe). The investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
