Electric Vehicles Exempted from VAT and Customs Duties for Two Years
The National Assembly has approved a proposal from the Government of Armenia to exempt electric vehicles from VAT and customs duties for a period of two years during an extraordinary session.
Previously, the import and sale of electric cars were exempt from VAT until January 1, 2024. In 2022, Armenia imported 3,455 electric vehicles, while in 2023, the number rose to 4,195, representing a 20 percent increase from the previous year.
For the years 2024 and 2025, discussions are underway within the EAEU to allocate a quota of approximately 8,000 electric vehicles to Armenia. The government is also conducting discussions with the management of the Electric Networks of Armenia and charging stations on how to implement a system for charging electric vehicles.
