Tourists Not Safe in Jermuk Today, Says MP to Kerobyan
The enemy is specifically targeting investments in the Republic of Armenia. This was stated by MP Tadevos Avetisyan from the Armenia faction during the session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Economic Issues, commenting on the government's newly introduced legislative package on tourism.
He noted that it is not safe for tourists in Jermuk today. “Mr. Kerobyan, when was the last time you visited Jermuk, which is considered one of our tourism centers, as well as the border areas of Tavush and Syunik? The foundation of tourism is safety. Will we again see overcrowded hotels in Jermuk? The enemy is specifically attacking investments in the Republic of Armenia, and there is no need to call certain organizations and ask about the situation; instead, one must go and ask people on the ground what is happening,” Avetisyan questioned.
In response to the MP, committee member and ruling party MP David Arushanyan noted that he just called Jermuk and was informed that there are currently no free spots in hotels for the New Year.
Afterwards, Minister of Economy Vahan Kerobyan stated that he visited Jermuk in July and that numerous projects are being implemented for tourism and balanced territorial development both there and in different regions of Armenia. “For this purpose, for example, we are organizing festivals. And I should mention that we have held 16 festivals in 2023 alone, with thousands of visitors in various regions of Armenia,” the minister added.
According to him, from a security perspective, this is an important law to ensure that tourists receive quality services and are not subjected to fraud. Regarding security, he stated that the Armenian government is making significant efforts to ensure that our country can achieve long-term peace.
