«Now the CSTO is occupied, it must declare that Azerbaijan should leave the 200 sq.km of Armenian territory» - Marukyan

The disagreements between Armenia and the CSTO are not related to the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. This was stated by Special Envoy Edmon Marukyan during an interview with Public Radio.

“During the 44-day war, Armenia did not appeal to the CSTO for assistance in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Armenia raised concerns with the CSTO regarding incursions into the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia,” the envoy noted.

“The CSTO is not involved in the failure to safeguard the Lachin corridor. The CSTO did not sign the statement on November 9, 2020; it was signed between Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. That document has been completely undermined, it has not been implemented, and is currently not in effect,” Marukyan stated.

According to the special envoy, the CSTO is now occupied, as the 200 sq.km of CSTO territory (the areas of Armenia occupied by Azerbaijan) is currently under occupation. “Now either the CSTO must declare that Azerbaijan should withdraw from this 200 sq.km of territory, or it must admit that it is unable to fulfill its obligations. And we will make our decision,” Marukyan added.
