44-Day War Victors Seeking Their Share: Marukyan

The victory of Azerbaijan in the 44-day war was not solely Azerbaijan's; it has 'stakeholders' who are now seeking their share. This was stated today by Armenia's Special Representative for International Issues Edmon Marukyan during an interview with Petros Ghazaryan, referencing the claim that Aliyev has certain agreements that he cannot break even if he wishes to.

"Azerbaijan's attack on Artsakh became possible after the Erdogan-Putin meeting, and presumably, when Aliyev was told 'let it be Karabakh for you,' some agreement was reached as the price for it, according to which he will solve this issue on that platform and will not turn to the West. And now, even if Aliyev wishes to, he will not be able to breach that agreement," said Petros Ghazaryan, to which Marukyan responded that earlier events could be reconsidered.

"You are referring to the events of September 19; I would take it back to the 44-day war. The victory of Azerbaijan in that war does not belong only to Azerbaijan; that victory has 'stakeholders,' and these 'stakeholders' have started to demand their 'stake'; the time for that has come. And this 'stake' could be the 'Zangezur Corridor,' or other circumstances. Now, Ilham Aliyev has to make a decision: either he takes a step during this historical period and frees himself from that situation and moves towards peace, or if he continues to listen to those 'stakeholders,' he will have serious problems in the West," said Edmon Marukyan.

According to him, the Armenian side has significant work ahead to ensure that Aliyev truly faces these issues, rather than allowing it to appear that everything has been 'digested.'

"In a certain sense, they are holding a pause, wanting to 'digest,' to see what they will do as time passes," he added.
