Baku Responds to The Hague Court's Decision

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has reacted to today's decision of the International Court of Justice, stating that Azerbaijan recognizes this decision.

As noted in the statement from the Azerbaijani foreign ministry, Baku welcomes the court's ruling, which reaffirms Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity while rejecting Armenia's claims that questioned Azerbaijan's long-recognized sovereignty over Nagorno-Karabakh.

"The measures indicated by the court are consistent with the policy already adopted by the Azerbaijani government towards the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. This includes our commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents, regardless of their national or ethnic affiliation. Azerbaijan has never expelled the Armenian residents; it has been their decision to move to Armenia or another country, despite Azerbaijan's calls not to leave Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijan is committed, in accordance with its constitution and international obligations, to protect the rights of the Armenian residents of Nagorno-Karabakh on an equal basis with other citizens," the statement reads.

Official Baku has stated that Azerbaijan takes its obligations under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination seriously.

"We continue to adhere to our obligations within the framework of international law to protect the rights of all individuals and are focused on building a peaceful and prosperous region," the statement concludes.

It is noteworthy that the International Court of Justice of the United Nations announced today its decision regarding Armenia's application for interim measures against Azerbaijan, obliging Azerbaijan to ensure the right of return for the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh.
