New Data on Children and Elderly Displaced by Violence from Artsakh

As of now, 83 elderly people who were forcibly displaced from Artsakh are living in 6 care facilities in Armenia. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Tatevik Stepanyan, during a press conference held at the humanitarian center.

“Seventeen of them were relocated from the elderly home in Stepanakert on September 24. Of the 83 elderly individuals in care centers, about 50 are alone. They will continue to receive care in our institutions,” Stepanyan detailed.

She emphasized that in the case of the elderly, there have been family reunifications within approximately a month and a half. Today, two elderly individuals returned to their families.

Stepanyan also addressed the children transferred from the Stepanakert dormitory. Ten children from the Stepanakert dormitory were moved to a round-the-clock care facility operating in Armenia; there were 5 girls and 5 boys in the dormitory.

“The children are aged between 1-17 years. At the time of their transfer, 2 children were in a very poor health condition and were placed in a hospital in Goris. After fully recovering, they were transferred to the care facility,” Simonyan stated.

The Deputy Minister noted that all children have biological parents and none have been deprived of parental rights. “We are making efforts to reunite them with their families, and the same process will be implemented for these children,” Simonyan added.

According to her, the families of 2 children have already been moved to homes near the care facility, and the ministry aims to try to reunite them. Additionally, 3 children have been registered as children eligible for guardianship.
