We Must Be Vigilant Against Any Attempts to Destabilize Armenia: Borrell
In Brussels, the meeting of EU foreign ministers concluded, during which, as previously announced, the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan were also discussed. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated at a press conference that the EU extends its unwavering support to the democratically elected authorities of Armenia and backs the country’s security.
Borrell noted that considering the ongoing reforms in the country, the EU has decided to strengthen its mission in Armenia and increase patrols in sensitive border areas. According to the High Representative, options are being discussed for easing the visa regime for Armenia.
“We must be vigilant against any attempts to destabilize Armenia, whether internal or external. Our message to Azerbaijan is clear: any violation of Armenia’s territorial integrity will be unacceptable and will have serious consequences for the quality of our relations. We urge the resumption of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan under the auspices of the President of the European Council, as we need this. A peace agreement can be signed, and we are committed to continuing our mediatory role,” said Josep Borrell.
