“Azerbaijan Will Have to Answer for Everything” - Mamijanyan's Response to Azerbaijani Delegation

During the joint meeting of the committees of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly held in the European Parliament, the leader of the "I Have Honor" faction, Hayk Mamijanyan, responded to the speech of a member of the Azerbaijani delegation.

"I thought I had heard and seen everything, but it was a surprise to hear the Azerbaijani delegation trying to prove that what has been accepted by the European Parliament in this building is a lie. The Azerbaijani delegation reads the judicial decision of the international court and interprets it as they wish. This was also a novelty for me.

As I understood, you (the Azerbaijani delegation) enjoy speaking with numerical examples. I will also mention a number. What I am talking about happened about a month ago. Only 60 people died on the road from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. And according to the Azerbaijani representatives’ perceptions, this happened not because those people were forcibly displaced, but because they voluntarily wanted to move. In other words, people were not forced to flee to Armenia, but somehow 60 people died on that road. I do not believe that this action was the result of a voluntary decision.

Regarding those people who 'came to live in Nagorno-Karabakh in the 90s', I would like to remind you that Armenians have lived there for centuries. And you (the Azerbaijani delegation) are well aware of this.

As for the UN mission... I am not afraid to say that it was a shameful delegation, consisting of which countries—Turkey, Pakistan—a country that officially does not recognize Armenia as a state, and so on.

Regarding the four resolutions of the UN, I remind you again that those four resolutions referred to the conflict of the 90s and have nothing to do with the resolution of the conflict, the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh, and also Armenia has no obligation under those UN resolutions except for one—to use its influence on the authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh to cease military operations. And Armenia has fulfilled that obligation.

You (the Azerbaijani delegation) spoke about human rights in Azerbaijan, but I can provide colleagues with interesting readings that have been prepared by the U.S. Department of State, the European Parliament, and other European institutions, which vividly depict the situation regarding human rights in Azerbaijan.

Speaking of forced displaced persons and Armenia's support, I note that currently there are more than 100,000 forcibly displaced persons in Armenia. I do not even want to present the tragedies of those families and children that are happening at this very moment. You (Azerbaijan) kept Nagorno-Karabakh under blockade for more than 9 months, after which due to the military aggression you carried out, more than 100,000 people were forced to be displaced to Armenia. I will repeat that number—more than 60 people died on that road of forcible displacement.

Of course, the Azerbaijani delegation will register again to make additional speeches and present new 'facts', but in response to those so-called facts, I kindly invite all our colleagues to Armenia—to see those people and hear what each of them has gone through. I will not even present facts and photos about killings, torture, the rape of women. I do not think that this is the place and time for that. However, what is written in this report under discussion is just documentation of everything that has happened this year. And one day, Azerbaijan will have to answer for all this."
