UK Home Secretary Sacked for Criticizing Police

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dismissed Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Monday, November 13. The dismissal came immediately after the Home Secretary criticized the police's actions during a pro-Palestinian march in London last Saturday.

Braverman published an article in the Times, labeling the conduct of law enforcement as possessing "double standards." She explained that in her view, police have responded harshly to the actions of participants in some demonstrations, while offering a more lenient response to others, including pro-Palestinian protesters. Braverman suggested that this approach may be motivated by a fear of criticism from the police.

The official also wrote that some organizers of the pro-Palestinian marches have ties to the Hamas radical group, which is designated as a terrorist organization in the US and the EU. According to British media, Braverman did not coordinate her text with the ministry beforehand. Sunak’s office requested the minister to make changes, but this was ignored.
