Erdogan Calls on the West to Pressure Israel
As long as the issue of Israel is unresolved, there can be no lasting peace and complete international legal order, neither in our region nor in the world. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a press conference while returning from Uzbekistan, according to local media.
Erdogan urged the West to pressure Israel regarding the establishment of a ceasefire in Gaza.
"Turkey is making efforts to halt this bleeding wound in Gaza. If the United States shares this approach, it will be much easier to stop Israel," the Turkish president said.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan also announced that the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ message regarding the ceasefire in the Middle East is commendable and indicates that he understands the current reality.
"From the very beginning of the conflict, the entire West, and especially the United States, has supported Israel. If Guterres genuinely proposed a worthy initiative, then there are reasons for it. That means he has understood what is happening. The UN Secretary-General acted on behalf of truth and justice," the state leader stated.
Erdogan also suggested examining the changes in the maps of Israeli and Palestinian settlements.
"Israel did not start the slaughter of Palestinians today; this has a history that began in 1947. Then these massacres started. Since that moment, in which areas have Palestinians lived and sought refuge, and what is Israel's position on those lands?" he said.
