Migrants Forbidden to Drive Taxis and Minibuses in Chelyabinsk Region

The Governor of the Chelyabinsk region in Russia has signed a decree prohibiting companies and individual entrepreneurs from hiring migrants as taxi or minibus drivers. This was reported by the Telegram channel Readovka.

The decree will take effect on January 1, 2024. Thus, the regulatory act aims to increase the employment of the region's able-bodied native residents while also addressing several issues that have arisen with migrant drivers, as this has been one of their preferred ways of making money in Russia.

For example, recently in Samara, a non-Russian taxi driver assaulted girls due to a dispute over an open window. Meanwhile, residents in the Moscow region have frequently complained about drivers from neighboring countries refusing to accept card payments, which has become a widespread issue.
