Information on Captured Individuals Transferred to Families: Details

As a result of the military aggression on September 19-20, information regarding 16 individuals captured by Azerbaijan, including leaders, military personnel, and civilians from Artsakh, has been conveyed to their families.

The spokesperson for Armenia's representative on international legal matters told Radio Liberty that relatives of the captured individuals were provided with details about their health status, conditions of detention, and photographs of the detained individuals. This information was obtained by Armenia's representative through the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

The international court requested information from Azerbaijan at Armenia's request, and Baku subsequently provided details regarding the captured individuals to the ECHR.

However, it has not been clarified whether the 16 captives have been tortured, whether their rights are being protected, or if they have health issues, as such information has yet to be provided.

Hasmik Samvelyan, spokesperson for Armenia's representative on international legal matters, stated that the phase of objections is currently underway. This means that if the Armenian side records human rights violations based on the data received about the captives, they will present these objections to the international court.

Family members of the detainees confirmed in a conversation with the media that the government has conveyed information to them regarding their relatives held in captivity in Azerbaijan. However, they refrained from disclosing whether they received concerning information about the conditions of detention or health status.

The relatives are apprehensive that any comments they make could harm the individuals held in prisons. They simply reported that the Red Cross finally met with their relatives and verbally communicated information about their needs. Some requested warm clothing, while others asked for cigarettes.

The International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed that after visiting 8 members of the Artsakh political and military leadership last month, they visited other individuals captured after September 19 this month.
