Kadyrov Threatens to Dismiss Officials Whose Children Do Not Speak Chechen

The leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, has threatened to dismiss officials whose children do not speak Chechen. According to Chechnya Today, Kadyrov made this statement during the final of a Chechen language proficiency competition held on November 7, as reported by Meduza.

“We are doing significant work to promote the Chechen language. However, it happens that the children of my team's representatives often do not speak Chechen. I will start removing such officials from the team,” he stated.

According to Kadyrov, parents should primarily teach their children their native language, but he noted that “Russian is often taught in kindergartens and schools, and parents frequently encourage this.”

“Children even start thinking in Russian,” the Chechen leader said, adding that, in his opinion, “the generation that does not speak and think in Chechen has no future.”

Kadyrov emphasized that Chechen is a threatened language and must become the primary means of communication for Chechen families.
