Turkey's Parliament Bans Coca-Cola and Nestle Products from Its Food Outlets

Turkey's Parliament has removed Coca-Cola and Nestle products from its food outlets. This was reported by Reuters.

“It has been decided that products from companies supporting Israel will not be sold in the restaurants, cafés, and tea houses located within the parliamentary premises,” the statement from the Turkish Parliament reads.

Coca-Cola beverages and Nestle instant coffee were the only brands identified for removal from the public dining menu.

“The Speaker’s office has not remained indifferent to public outrage and has decided to remove the products of these companies,” a source from the agency stated.

Both brands have recently been mentioned in social media posts by Turkish activists calling for a boycott of companies that allegedly support Israel.

By the directive of the Parliament’s Speaker, products from these companies will not be sold in dining facilities, cafés, tea houses, and related venues within the parliamentary grounds. According to a message posted on the Parliament’s website, the order to boycott these products was issued by Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş.

“The Parliament has decided to support public concerns regarding the boycott of products from companies that openly declare their support for Israel’s military crimes, which lead to the deaths of innocent people in Gaza and have supported the genocide in Gaza; these products will not be sold in the dining facilities, cafés, and tea houses of the Parliament and its associated venues,” the statement said.

Since this morning, staff and visitors in the Parliament’s café have been unable to order from these companies. Stocks available in the parliamentary facilities will either be returned to suppliers or moved to other storage facilities.

Turkey has sharply criticized Israel's actions in Gaza, considering them a violation of international law and a crime against humanity.
