VIDEO: Activists Smash Velázquez Painting's Glass in London
The British police have arrested two environmental activists from "Just Stop Oil" who smashed the glass of Diego Velázquez's painting "Venus with a Mirror" at the National Gallery in London.
According to a post on the social media platform X, the London police stated: "Two activists from 'Just Stop Oil' have been detained for damaging property. The glass protecting the painting at the National Gallery has been vandalized." Gallery staff indicated that the painting has been removed from display for further inspection by conservators.
The activists claimed that their latest action is a response to the British government's plans to increase the number of oil drilling licenses.
