American Nuclear Submarine in the Middle East
The US Ohio-class strategic nuclear submarine is now in the Middle East, within the area of responsibility of the US Central Command. This was announced in a message from the command on social media X.
Ohio-class submarines form the backbone of the US strategic offensive nuclear forces. They are equipped with intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Previously, two American strike groups led by the USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carriers had arrived in the Middle East. Additionally, 300 more American soldiers have been sent to the region.
The US has reinforced its presence in the Middle East against the backdrop of the war between Israel and Hamas. The Pentagon explained this move as an effort to deter any state or non-state actor from escalating military actions outside the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, reports indicate that US authorities do not currently plan to send troops to Israel.
