US Special Forces Arrive in Israel
US special operations personnel have arrived in Israel to assist the country's authorities in locating hostages, reports the New York Times, citing Christopher Meyer, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict, as well as other sources. The information is conveyed by RIA Novosti.
"American special forces in Israel are helping to locate more than 200 hostages," the newspaper states. According to Meyer's statement, US special operations units will not be participating in military actions, but they are discussing the 'very complex fight' in Gaza with their Israeli counterparts.
Meyer did not specify how many special operations personnel are currently in Israel, but sources quoted by the publication indicated that the Pentagon has sent "several dozen special forces" in recent days.
"We are actively assisting the Israelis on a number of issues, particularly in finding hostages, including Americans. This is truly our responsibility," the publication quotes Meyer as saying.
