Israel Strikes Refugee Camp, Claims Hamas
Hamas has announced an Israeli strike on a refugee camp. According to AFP, 47 bodies have been retrieved from the rubble.
BBC News reports that the Gaza Strip's health ministry and the director of a nearby hospital claim that the explosion in the Jabalia refugee camp, located in the northern enclave, has resulted in at least 50 fatalities. The ministry states that the cause of the explosion was an Israeli airstrike.
According to statistics from the Hamas-controlled agency, around 150 individuals have been injured, with “dozens” remaining trapped under the debris.
The Israeli Defense Forces have yet to comment on the incident. Jabalia camp, located in the northern part of Gaza City, is the largest of the eight refugee camps in Gaza. As reported by BBC News, the United Nations indicates that as of July 2023, over 116,000 Palestinian refugees are registered there.
