Trains Collide Again in India: Casualties Reported
On Sunday, October 29, in Andhra Pradesh, India, at least six people were killed and about 40 injured following a collision between two passenger trains, according to reports from AP. Meanwhile, Reuters, citing local authorities, reports that there were 10 fatalities and 25 injuries.
A senior government official confirmed that three coaches of one of the passenger trains derailed as a result of the incident, as reported by DW. The accident occurred in southeastern India when one train, traveling from Vizag to Rayagada, halted due to a disconnection in the overhead contact system. At that moment, it was struck by an oncoming express train.
It is worth noting that in early June, a train collision in Odisha, India, resulted in at least 288 deaths and over 900 injuries, marking the worst railway disaster in the country in the past 20 years.
