Nvard Vardenyan on Changes in His Wealth After Becoming a Council Member
Following a session of the Yerevan City Council, Nvard Vardenyan, secretary of the 'Civil Contract' faction, addressed reporters regarding changes in his wealth since becoming a council member.
"I have one apartment, which belonged to my grandmother, and my parents and aunt have made it a gift to me," he stated.
When asked how he purchased a car in 2022 with a salary of 65,000 AMD, Vardenyan replied, "It was a gift from my husband; I no longer have it. It was an old Mazda, and we sold it afterward."
Simultaneously, Vardenyan dismissed rumors that he is aspiring to the position of mayor of the Central administrative district. "Not only has there been no offer, but there hasn't even been such a discussion within the team," Vardenyan noted.
Earlier, the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd' reported that Nvard Vardenyan, secretary of the Yerevan City Council's 'Civil Contract' faction, claimed he aimed for the mayoral position of the Central administrative district while purchasing two vehicles a few days apart in 2022, specifically Ford models manufactured in 2018.
On November 9, 2021, council member Vardenyan received three properties as a donation: an individually owned residential house with a shared ownership right, and two properties co-owned under the laws of the Republic of Armenia, which are newly built and registered by the relevant authority responsible for the cadastre of immovable property, although they have not yet received state registration for rights. It is also worth mentioning that all three properties are located in the Central administrative district.
How can an ordinary Yerevan resident, earning a monthly salary of 65,000 AMD, purchase two cars within a few days and receive three properties as gifts? Additionally, Nvard Vardenyan has not submitted any declarations between 2018 and 2021 that would have revealed what assets he had at the time of becoming a council member. However, it is clear what he has acquired in his capacity as a council member.
