Armenia Approves Proposal to Open Russian Consulate in Kapan – Foreign Minister
The Russian side has submitted a proposal to open a consulate in Kapan, and Armenia has given its approval. This was announced by Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan during a government Q&A session in the National Assembly.
“Indeed, the Russian side has officially requested to open a consulate general in Kapan, and Armenia has, in due form, given its positive conclusion and consent, considering all possible nuances. I would find it difficult to say what stage Russia is currently at in the process of opening this consulate. Nevertheless, this is their responsibility, but they are cooperating with the relevant agencies of Armenia at any stage,” Mirzoyan stated.
The minister emphasized that there is interest from various countries in opening consulates in the Syunik region. “Iran already has one, France has announced intentions to do so, and there are other countries with whom discussions are ongoing. However, since there are no final agreements yet, I wouldn’t want to disclose those countries,” Mirzoyan added.
