Israel Used White Phosphorus, Says Head of Palestinian Diplomatic Mission at UN
The Israeli Defense Forces have used banned white phosphorus during attacks on the Gaza Strip, according to Ibrahim Kreichi, head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission at the UN. This information was reported by RIA Novosti.
"Israel has used white phosphorus during its strikes on Gaza, a fact also confirmed by Human Rights Watch," Kreichi stated during a press briefing with journalists.
According to the III Protocol of the 1980 Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, munitions containing white phosphorus are prohibited in populated areas where civilians and civilian objects are present. Earlier, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported that Israel was shelling the Gaza Strip with white phosphorus munitions, which led to the evacuation of a children's hospital in the eastern part of the enclave.
