Commander of Martuni Military Police Arrested

The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia reports that as a result of measures taken by the operational-investigative department, actual data has been obtained regarding illegal actions committed by E. A., the head of the Martuni military police's territorial division, who received a large bribe of 570,000 AMD on behalf of a bribery perpetrator.

Specifically, it has been revealed that S. H., the father of a conscript from military unit N of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia, approached G. G., the quartermaster of the Monte Melkonyan Military Sports School Foundation, to assist in bribing an official for not documenting the discovery of prohibited items with the conscript. G. G. then contacted his close acquaintance, E. A., the head of the Martuni military police's territorial division, with the intention of facilitating the bribe, who accepted the offer for bribery.

Afterwards, E. A. used his official powers and influence to illegally inaction and not document the incident of the prohibited item discovery involving the conscript, receiving a bribe of 570,000 AMD via bank transfer from the conscript's father with the assistance of G. G. on September 12, 2023.

Additionally, during the searches conducted during the pre-trial investigation, ammunition was found in the offices of officials of the military police division without legal grounds.

On October 26, 2023, E. A., along with S. H. and G. G., who assisted in the bribery, were arrested. E. A. has been charged under Article 435, parts 2 and 3 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, while G. G. has been charged under Article 436, parts 2 and 3. A motion has been submitted by the Anti-Corruption Committee's investigator to the court requesting E. A. be taken into custody as a preventive measure, which has been granted by the court. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.

Note: The accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a final court verdict in accordance with the established procedure of the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia.
