Canada to Send 2 Observers to Armenia, Says Deputy Minister

Canada will send two observers to Armenia in a very short period who will join the European Union’s civilian monitoring mission in the country. Paruir Hovhannisyan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, stated this during a press briefing with reporters in Jermuk, summarizing the visit of Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly to Armenia.

“The Canadian Foreign Minister stated that Canada is the first non-EU country that has expressed a desire to send observers to Armenia, and the 2 observers will arrive shortly. We hope that Canada will further expand its contribution in the future,” said Hovhannisyan.

According to the Deputy Minister, the opening of the Canadian embassy in Armenia is a sign of special attention towards the country. “During the visit, the minister addressed humanitarian assistance issues. Canada has tripled its support, and all avenues for deepening cooperation have been outlined,” Hovhannisyan added.

He emphasized that Canada is a significant country whose voice is quite influential in international organizations.
