Translator in Azerbaijan Deliberately Misconstrued Khachatryan's Statement During Trial, Marukyan Says

“As I mentioned earlier, all trials in Azerbaijan, including that of Vagif Khachatryan, are farcical in nature and disrespect the European Convention on Human Rights and universally accepted international norms within the context of Azerbaijan’s commitments,” wrote Edmond Marukyan, Armenia’s Ambassador for Special Assignments, on his microblog.

He added that yesterday, 70-year-old Vagif Khachatryan once again denied his involvement in the Meshali incident and apologized in Armenian, literally stating that he was not present there.

“However, the translator conveyed that Khachatryan was apologizing to the Azerbaijani people for all the incidents committed by Armenians, misinterpreting Vagif's words. It is evident that under the Azerbaijani regime, a fair trial cannot be conducted, and therefore, they must immediately release all prisoners from Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh,” Marukyan wrote.
