VIDEO: "This Is How It Is, They Won't Be Smart, Advertisements Won't Come" - Sisak Gabrielyan
The National Assembly is discussing the proposed amendments to the "Law on Audiovisual Media" presented by the Deputy from the ruling party, Sisak Gabrielyan, which aims to protect the financial flows of television companies.
"The draft proposes that more than 50% of the television companies present in the public multiplex come together to create a council that will select an organization for conducting measurements, and they will have oversight over that company," Gabrielyan said, also presenting clarifications from stakeholders regarding what he described as unjust distribution of funding. "This has been the case, let's say, when we were in a coalition with the Dashnaktsutyun party, we somewhat raised the rating of ‘Yerkir Media,’ money would come from advertisements; when we are not in coalition, they wouldn’t behave smartly, and there wouldn’t be any advertisements. Should the ‘Kentron’ television channel not have a rating, and thus not receive advertisements?" Gabrielyan noted, adding that under the draft, the government will have zero involvement in the selection of the measurement company.
