Hungary Again Blocks €500 Million Military Aid Allocation to Ukraine
The foreign ministers of the European Union were unable to reach an agreement on the allocation of €500 million in military aid to Ukraine from the European Peace Facility. This was announced by the EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, at a press conference.
“There has been no agreement due to Hungary’s position,” reports Rikhard Yozvyak, a correspondent for Radio Liberty in Brussels. “As expected, there was no agreement at today’s meeting of EU foreign ministers regarding the eighth tranche of EU military aid to Ukraine (€500 million).”
The European Peace Facility was established in March 2021 and is funded by contributions from EU member states. Under the facility, Ukraine has received approximately €3.6 billion from the EU. In addition to Ukraine, the European Peace Facility has financed defense assistance to several other countries, including Georgia, Moldova, Mali, Somalia, and Lebanon.
